Lightning
Last updated November, 2012
Each year 16 million lightning storms occur all around the world, with 2,000 storms happening at any one time. Every year approximately 100,000 people are injured and 10,000 people are killed by lightning. This is a humongous amount deaths compared to tornados or cyclones. Lightning is very dangerous because it’s unpredictable. It can strike outside the storm that created it. Most lightning will strike within roughly 16km of the storm that created it but it has been known to strike up to 80km away from its thunder storm. To make matters worse you can't have a thunderstorm without lightning because thunder is the sound that lightning makes but you can have lightning without a thunder storm.
